Bringing the Hospital Home: How to Select a Home Care Bed

When a patient is transitioning from a clinical setting to home care, the bed is the most important piece of equipment. A standard twin bed rarely provides the positioning or safety required for recovery.
Manual vs. Semi-Electric vs. Full-Electric
Manual: Adjustments are made via a hand crank at the foot of the bed. Best for budget-conscious users where height changes aren't frequent.
Semi-Electric: The head and foot sections move via a remote, but the overall height of the bed is adjusted manually.
Full-Electric: The easiest option for caregivers. The remote controls the head, the foot, and the vertical height of the entire frame.
Must-Have Accessories
Pressure-Relief Mattresses: Essential for preventing bedsores (decubitus ulcers).
Overbed Tables: Makes eating and reading much more accessible.
Trapeze Bars: Helps the patient reposition themselves without straining the caregiver.
